Students attend classes and get hands-on training, all while preparing to apply to an apprenticeship or their first job in the trades. PYB students are deeply resilient. By holding our students to high standards while giving them exceptional levels of support, we help underserved youth build their confidence and abilities at the same time.

In our classrooms, highly trained certified teachers help youth build on their strengths in order to find academic success, while counselors help tackle the issues that may be keeping students from focusing on school. Career development at PYB goes beyond the basics. Through our counseling and case management services, Portland YouthBuilders offers youth access to vital resources, a school that is working towards anti-racism and equity, and the knowledge that a community of caring adults will always have their back.

Founded in , Portland YouthBuilders offers low-income youth a pathway out of poverty through our two main programs, YouthBuild and Bridge. Each year, we provide free education, vocational training, counseling, career development, and long term support services to over students who face significant barriers to success, all within a school culture that embraces equity. Students finish high school, receive training in construction or technology, reduce or eliminate their barriers to success, and get placed in apprenticeships, jobs, or post-secondary education.

Graduates continue to receive PYB support after leaving our full-time program. After growing up in a rough neighborhood, the loss of a childhood friend made Bill feel like he needed a fresh start.
