What we do offer, however, is a voucher for low-income families to get their pet spayed or neutered at a low cost. The voucher covers the cost of the basic spay or neuter which includes the surgery, anesthesia and the pain meds post-surgery, but any further costs such as vaccinations and other potential treatments are not covered by the Victoria BC SPCA, so you will want to ask about those when you book your appointment.

Each year we work with local community agencies, veterinary hospitals and veterinary medical staff to provide free health clinics for the pets of the homeless and those that are low income.

We are aware that the need for our clinics is province wide and we aim to continue to expand. These clinics are part of our ongoing, long-term goal to increase access to veterinary care and to build a sustainable animal welfare system that provides the utmost care for our companion animals in our province. The Better Together program promotes responsible pet guardianship by assisting individuals to get basic veterinary care for their pets.

By providing the necessary vaccinations, we also provide health benefits to the community at large, by reducing the likelihood of the spread of deadly diseases, such as parvovirus, distemper and rabies. Information on responsible basic care, and pet guardianship, including licensing information, is also made available. Our animal health clinics are run by our volunteer Animal Health Team.

Many of the supplies are donated from veterinary medical supply companies. The clinics are busy days, with many cases requiring follow-up care, such as medications or surgeries. We have some limited funding which might be available for those who cannot pay the user fee. You will need to provide proof of your income from all sources. You may submit photocopies of your documents if you do not wish to give up your originals. Please be sure to complete all required information on the application form.

We will not process incomplete applications. This program applies to cats and kittens only. Kittens must be over 1. We will spay cats which are in heat and those which are in early stage pregnancy and we strongly recommend doing so. If you think your cat might be pregnant please say so on your application and we will try to get her in on the earliest possible surgery date.

Late stage pregnancy we will try assist to best of our abilities. Complete one Sign In Sheet for each cat or kitten. Be sure that you provide phone numbers that will allow the vet clinic to contact you or get a message to you if necessary on the day of the clinic.

All cats must be in carriers, one for each cat. We will have some carriers available to lend to those who are not able to get one any other way. We will collect applications until we have enough approved applications for a clinic day.
